MS Europa : Premiere "restaurant Dieter Mueller" on Board
The starred chef Dieter Mueller and the company Hapag-Lloyd Cruises are looking forward to a special premiere this coming autumn: Dieter Mueller will be the first starred chef to set sail with his own gourmet restaurant aboard the world’s only 5-star-plus ship* MS EUROPA. Following a redesign on the occasion of a shipyard stay in Hamburg in September, the Euro-Asian restaurant „Oriental” on board the EUROPA will be converted into the „Restaurant Dieter Mueller”. The starred chef will personally open the restaurant on 29 September in Hamburg.

Alongside MS EUROPA chef Stefan Wilke, who underwent training with the famous German 3-Michelin-star chef Harald Wohlfahrt and will continue to be in charge of three restaurants on board, the renowned starred chef will be the manager and patron of the new „Restaurant Dieter Mueller" and spend 70 days of the year aboard the EUROPA himself. The „Restaurant Dieter Mueller“ with 26 seats offers set meals in the evenings and is included in the cruise price.

Dieter Mueller: “For me, this is a great challenge which I am happy to face in view of the extensive experience I have gained. As a premium chef and ambassador of good taste, I am delighted to be accompanying The World’s Most Beautiful Yacht and her guests in culinary terms.“

“The EUROPA sets standards on a worldwide scale. Since she was first put into service, she has developed from a traditional ship to a lifestyle product. This is also reflected by the gastronomic selection“, explains Sebastian Ahrens, Managing Director of Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. “We are very pleased to present the ‘Restaurant Dieter Mueller’, the only gourmet temple on the high seas run by one of the best starred chefs in the world.“

From February 1992 till February 2008, Dieter Mueller was Head Chef and Patron for the „Gourmet-Restaurant Dieter Müller“ in Schlosshotel Lerbach (Castle Hotel) in Bergisch Gladbach.

In February 2008 Mueller handed over the position as Head Chef to Nils Henkel and Mueller left the “Schlosshotel Lerbach”. Since 2010, the restaurant is called “Gourmet restaurant Lerbach”. Therefore the “Dieter Müller Restaurant” onboard the EUROPA will be the only restaurant from and with Dieter Mueller.

Mueller is without a doubt one of the best chefs in the German speaking countries, also rewarded with the 5-star Diamond Award. His restaurant received three Michelin stars from the gourmet guide “Michelin”. The gourmet guide Gault-Millau gave him 19,5 points from 20. No one received ever 20 points and he is the only German with 19,5 points. The Gault Millau also called him one of the 16 best Head Chefs in the world. The German gourmet magazine “Der Feinschmecker” said about his restaurant: “perfect in all aspects”.

He is also an author of many cooking books. He was awarded as the first German with the Cooking book award “Prix la Mazille International”.

All this underlines the specialness of this new restaurant onboard the EUROPA. It is very unusual to have such a great chef exclusively onboard a ship. Dieter Mueller has received everything you can get as a professional Head Chef – he won every award, he got the highest ranking in gourmet guides – there had to be a very special opportunity to go for something new. And here it is.

The Style and menu

Dieter Mueller creates his menus under his credo: full of flavour, modern, contemporary. We have no menus yet as we still have nearly two months to go before the restaurant will open. Dieter Mueller will create the menus in the next couple of weeks. The menu will change after each cruise.

The style of the restaurant will be modern in an intimate atmosphere. It will have 26 seats only and guarantees a very special dinner experience.

Reservation: The guests can reserve a table during a cruise directly onboard. It is limited to one reservation per cruise as the menu stays the same during one cruise. A reservation spontaneously for the same night is possible upon availability.

Dieter Mueller will be onboard for 70 days per year. He will have his own team onboard, responsible for the Restaurant Dieter Müller only. He will be Patron and Head Chef. MS EUROPA Head Chef Stefan Wilke will be responsible for all other EUROPA restaurants (main restaurant EUROPA, Venezia and Lido).

Dieter Mueller will be in the dock yard end of September to train his team and to prepare everything for the big opening of his restaurant onboard of MS EUROPA.
